Elleven hours on a plane is certainly not fun, but it gives you time to think a little about the insane scenario outside the window. What a world this is, what a planet. I know that Tellus is small compared to a lot of other planets, but still - what dimensions.

I'm writing this from the Hotel Hacienda, and it feels good to finally have arrived. The hotel is pretty cozy, and I will have to enjoy it as long as I can, because we have no intensions of spending so much for hotels for the rest of the trip. I had to this time, because it sort of followd my airticket.
The flight was beautifull but loooong. Sitting watching the Atlantic Ocean for hours really made me aware of what a tiny piece I am in this vast existence. Just to make me even smaller, this was followed up by some hours of Amazon rain forest. It's incredible, and it makes you feel humble towards life itself.
The flight over the Andes was a little bit dissapointing due to a lot of fog. I did however see parts of it as we approached the airport, and I have put an image here. It's however hard to get a nice picture through an airplane window.
Waiting for the luggage at the airport is always a little bit exciting, and it finally showed up this time too. Then I had to wait in a huge line for customs, and it was a little bit different than Norway. Instead of paying 20US$ for a taxi, I took a bus for 6US$, and that showed to be a very wise choice. Waiting for the bus, I met Kris from Belgium. He was 22, and had been here one year as an exchange student, and then every year for the last three years for vacation. A really nice guy, who told me a lot of wise thing to know about South America.
So, now I'm settling in. I'm gonna have a look at the town, because it's only around nine o'clock here, and then it's just to wait for Lars and Hege tomorrow. I'm pretty sure they will have a cultural shock, because Lima has so far reminded me a lot about India, it's pure caos and I love it - at least for a while. |
