We took a bus just outside the Central Railwaystation for 2 Sloty per. person to the Saltmine. The bus trip took approximately 45 minutes.
When we arrived at the Saltmine site, we bought tickets, 32 Sloty each, and we then had to wait until a group of 35 visiters had developed. The guide of course spoke in Polish, so be aware to get an English speaking guide. They work specialhours.
First we walked down stairs for internity, and the only thing to watch was the ugly tagging on the walls. After reaching 70 meters below the surface we entered a room, and from there we walked in quite huge corridors further down in all directions.
We then entered a chapel, and as Lars was about to take the picture everyone turned around due to what the Polish guide said, which we of course did not understand. Quite funny.
We went further down and reached 125 meters below surface, and here we entered the St. Kinga Chapel, a magnifcent big room which they used 30 years to excavate. 20.000 ton of rocksalt had to be removed, and this picture shows how they did it. They arrange weddings down here and also religious ceremonies.
There are salt water lakes several places, and people use these places as wells of fortune by throwing money into them.
The tour up was by elevator, and what kind of elevator. We had to squeeze together over three floors, and we then went up at high speed. Do we need to say that the beer tasted very good ? |
